What's the Big News?
I guess the big news these days is the weather.  My crocuses are budding but then most of them wilt before they bloom.  It's pretty warm around here now and nature is confused.  We've been having 50 degree Farenheit temperature for at least 5 weeks.

What's new or updated on Alwanza?
I've made some more tweaks on my new Turkish food page and I've reorganized the links on my home page, taking off my link to my re´sume´, partly because it needs major updating and partly because I don't think I'm going to be changing jobs in the near future.

What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I finally pulled out my Macintosh Powerbook 190 (circa 1993), connected my mouse, zip drive, HP Deskwriter C printer and spent almost an entire weekend trying to get it to print.  I finally got it printing today.  In a dream, I remembered that I never could get the printer to work when it was hooked up directly to the Powerbook, at least not after installing System 7 (it WAS possible with System 6).  Here's the tweak, and I know this sounds totally implausible, but I have a old fashioned Data Switch (PS2) and if I put that Data Switch in between my Powerbook 190 and my HP Deskwriter C, I can get the printer to function properly (Apple talk inactive, serial port selected).

I made notes about the entire configuration and put it on my Mac because it was such a bear to get it to work.

Why am I messing with an old Macintosh?  Well, I adore Macintosh (best integrated engineering and design) and I was on Mac from 1985 through 1995.  I switched to PC due to business world demands (and later upgraded to Linux), but I still have lots of data and some programs that I like to run on the Mac.

Something else that is totally weird is that I haven't used this Mac or Deskwriter in at least a year and a half.  I know this is the first time I hooked it up in our new house.  And the ink cartridge is still good in the Deskwriter.  Amazing.

I think I once tried to get my Powerbook 190 to work on my DSL Internet connection and failed.  I'm not going to waste too much time on it, but I have to try at least once again, since I now know tons more about Connection Protocol than I ever imagined I would learn.

What else is going on in my life?
Food has gotten better at home these days.  I never thought I'd have so many kitchen gadgets but when they permit food to be prepared from scratch with little or no supervision, they are big time savers.  We've been making soups in our new crock pot and it is great to come home knowing that good healthy food is already prepared.

Any nature observances of interest?
The Burke-Gilman trail between Lake Forrest Park and Woodinville is wonderful; trees on one side, a stream on the other, and bridges so that you change sides around the stream.  Tom is enamoured of the wild "chickens" (most of them are roosters) on the trail in Bothell.
