What's new or updated on Alwanza?
Well, for one thing, this page is new.  There are a few new recipes for the holidays in the recipes section of the How To pages.  I've put the December colors on the index page (and this page), and I'm one step closer to moving the site to my own server (I've been wanting to do that for about 3 years - no date set yet but my estimate is for February 2003).
What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I just got MySQL running and accessible from Perl scripts on my development machine.  Next I'll do the same for the server.  It involved upgrading from RedHat 7.2 and RedHat 7.3 to RedHat 8.0.  I was never able to get "make" to work properly on RedHat 7.x and downloading using the Perl command-line utility from CPAN invariably raised errors that should not have occurred (MD5 errors for one).  But these problems disappeared after I upgraded to RedHat 8.0.

I'm working on catching up with my Java homework and reading assignments.  I'm pitifully behind because I became mono-maniacal about MySQL....  Now I can return Scott's books (O'Reilly's for MySQL, and for Apache).  Thanks for lending them, Scott!  I'd like to mention that Rebel also helped me with MySQL by puzzling it out with me and urging me to upgrade to RedHat8.0.

When the Java course ends, I'll work on making the leap from CGI scripts to mod_perl on my Linux/Apache boxes.
What else is going on in my life?
You mean there's life outside of hi-tech?  I'm still looking for employment.  I cooked for Thanksgiving.  I blessed the candles on the first day of Hhannukah (a Hurrian word meaning "gift").  I balanced the checkbooks over the weekend.

I need to register for next term's classes at NSCC.  And I need to set up the date and subject for the next SeattleLinuxChix meeting.
